I think a lot of us are grieving something like this, and I'd rather say it out loud than pretend it's not happening:

One of my favorite things I've done in my career is deep listening tours.

I go into an organization, interview people at every level, and make sense of enormous amounts of messy human input.

Finding patterns in all that data is one of the things I'm best at, and it's exactly the kind of thing AI can now do in minutes.

What I'm trying now: after the interviews, I record myself giving the "coach's narrative" and telling the story I feel is there. Then I hold that up to what the tool tabulated.

While I'm sad to lose an aspect of my job that I loved, I'd rather build the new version deliberately than pretend the old one is coming back.

What does "building the new version" look like for you in your role?

Rise of the People Engineer (we're all product managers now)

The trendy new role in People teams is the People Engineer. And in the coming edition of the FNDN Series I'm sharing the exact job description a bunch of companies are using to hire theirs.

And while I find it deeply fascinating that People teams are getting this role now that development is easier and cheaper (Jevons paradox?), what I find equally fascinating is the impact it's having on the broader people function.

It's forcing many of us to become Product Managers.

People who define our strategy, build our roadmap and then craft the concept.

The engineer then deploys it and ensures stability/privacy/security etc.

The people function just keeps getting more exciting IMO, and I'm expecting this trend to accelerate as the value of people keeps increasing inside leaner orgs with higher output people.

Have you seen this role emerge in your own network, and do you think it's here to stay?

Wasn't Jessica Zwaan 's first book about People Ops but from the lens of Product Management direction/strategy?

I feel like we should have always been product managers to some extent or bought product thinking into P&C earlier!

I am New Here

Hi everyone , I’m new here, so I thought I’d say hello!

I’m a People & HR professional based in the Vancouver area with a passion for creating meaningful employee experiences, building strong workplace cultures, and helping organizations get the most out of their people. I’m a Human Resources professional with experience supporting organizations and teams across Canada, working in both unionized and non-union environments.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across different teams, environments, and challenges, which has taught me that great people practices are really about balancing empathy, business needs, and what works in the real world.

I’m excited to be here, connect with others in the community, share experiences, and learn from the amazing people around me.

Looking forward to getting to know you all! ✨

Great to connect through IGC! 👋

Welcome Harmit. I recall fondly my time working with unionised environments. Very complex stakeholder management compared to a normal salaried workplace IMO but a good challenge nevertherless.

Sr. HR & Operations Executive

Hello everyone!

My name is Marissa Worlie, and I serve as a Senior HR & Operations Executive at Sagitec Solutions, where I've been in my current role for the past 5.5 years. I oversee a wide range of HR and operational functions across North America, supporting both our U.S. and Canadian workforce.

My responsibilities include managing the full employee lifecycle, from onboarding and offboarding to HR operations, employee compliance, and workforce administration. I also serve as our U.S. and Canadian Immigration Specialist, partnering closely with legal counsel, employees, and leadership to manage immigration programs and ensure adherence to evolving regulatory requirements.

A significant portion of my role is focused on compliance and risk management across North America. I lead HR compliance initiatives, assist internal audits, and serve as the HR lead for SOC and HITRUST audits, ensuring our people processes align with regulatory, security, and organizational standards.

I'm excited to connect with fellow HR professionals, learn from your experiences, and contribute to the community discussions.

I look forward to connecting with you all!

Welcome, Marissa.

I'm Shera. We have overlap in our experience. Love that! I spent more than a decade in HCM tech working with clients globally, and I've sat in CHRO seats, so both halves of what you described are familiar. Compliance and immigration work in particular is the kind of thing that only gets noticed when something goes sideways.

I run my own consulting practice now. I work on the gap between what a company embeds versus what people actually embody once it goes live. This is a problem I first got interested in watching implementations land technically and then quietly not deliver the value intended.

Glad you're here. I'm happy to chat anytime. What's the part of the job that has changed most for you over five years?
