How much recruiter time is actually spent recruiting?

One thing I keep noticing across recruiting teams is that recruiters spend surprisingly little of their day actually engaging with candidates.

A significant amount of time goes into reviewing resumes, coordinating interviews, sending follow-ups, updating hiring pipelines, writing interview summaries, and keeping hiring managers aligned. None of these tasks are particularly difficult, but together they consume hours that could be spent building relationships and making hiring decisions.

As hiring volume increases, that administrative workload grows just as fast. Recruiters end up acting more like workflow coordinators than talent advisors, while candidates wait longer for responses and hiring managers lose visibility into where things stand.

I'm curious how other recruiting teams are approaching this.

Are you still relying on manual processes, or have you found ways to automate the operational side of recruiting?
