Do we really need Engagement Initiatives?

Had an employee once who complained every chance they got. No culture here. Nobody does anything fun. Company doesn't care about us.

So we listened. Built out a whole calendar of activities based on what people said they wanted.

Guess who never showed up.

Same person..

I used to think this was hypocrisy. Now I think it's something else. Sometimes the complaint was never really about the activities. It was about feeling unseen, and the activities were just the easiest thing to point at.

Doesn't mean you stop building culture. It means you stop assuming the loudest complaint tells you the whole story.
