Building a people strategy that holds up under pressure

People strategy has always mattered. What’s changed is the amount of pressure it’s under and how visible its impact has become.

Today’s CHROs are navigating constant change: shifting expectations, evolving work models, tighter labor markets, and growing scrutiny from the business. In that environment, people strategy can’t be static or reactive. It has to be intentional, connected, and resilient.

But is strengthening people strategy really about chasing the next big idea? 

I'd argue that it's more about sharpening the fundamentals. Go back to the basics: Listen closely, ensure your talent decisions align with business goals, and build systems that genuinely support people through change (not just during moments of stability).
