Our current definition of work won’t last another generation…
Headlines scream about strikes, talent shortages, “quiet quitting,” and generational clashes. But those headlines? They’re just symptoms. The real story is much deeper.
Today’s workforce is shaped by pandemics, racial uprisings, economic volatility, climate anxiety, and tech acceleration AND by rising demands for justice, autonomy, and purpose. This isn’t just burnout. It’s a redefinition of what work should be.
Younger generations (and many older ones too) aren’t rejecting work. They’re rejecting work that doesn’t work and there’s a realization that hasn't been working for some time. They’re demanding dignity, equity, flexibility, and impact. And for the first time in modern history, a critical mass is saying enough.
This is bigger than a trend, and we must pay attention. It’s the most significant intergenerational transformation of work we’ve ever seen. The question isn’t if work will change. It’s how we’ll respond.
