The Kids Don’t Want to Work

Let’s set the record straight: It’s not just Millennials or Gen Z who are questioning outdated workplace norms. What we’re seeing is an intergenerational shift- people across age groups responding to cultural forces that demand something different from work.

I call this group genWHY? (not to be confused with Gen Y). It’s not about age - it’s about mindset.

genWHY? are workers who:

  • Aren’t content with the status quo

  • Want more than a paycheck

  • See their professional lives as an extension of their values

  • Demand dignity, flexibility, equity, and impact

This isn’t laziness. It’s evolution. Work is being redefined- not by one generation, but by all of us who are asking deeper questions about what work should mean in our lives.

So, community: Do you identify with genWHY?? What’s the biggest “myth about work” you think needs to be challenged?
