The return to human-centered design

So many people talk about human-centered design like it's something new.

It's really just a return to basics.

For a while, efficiency, scale, and speed took center stage. Tools got more powerful, processes got tighter, and people were often expected to adapt to systems that weren’t built with them in mind.

As always, things re-center. And we're seeing a correction now.

It's taking the form of a growing recognition that productivity, engagement, and performance don’t come from forcing people to work around poorly designed experiences. They come from designing work around how people actually think, collaborate, and get things done.

Human-centered design is all about being smarter. When work systems reflect real human needs, friction drops, adoption improves, and outcomes follow.

This Reworked piece captures why that shift is happening and why it matters now more than ever: https://www.reworked.co/employee-experience/the-return-of-human-centered-design/https://www.reworked.co/employee-experience/the-return-of-human-centered-design/
