What People Proud Means to Me

Being People Proud isn’t about fancy perks, shiny office spaces, or performative wellness weeks.

To me, it means putting humans at the center of work in a way that’s more intentional, and less transactional.

I’ve spent years in HR hearing the tired phrase: “HR is not your friend.” 😮‍💨

And sure, sometimes we have to make some pretty tough calls. It comes with the territory.

But at the end of the day, HR folks are also employees, parents, partners, caregivers, and fellow humans trying to do right by other humans!

Being People Proud means I measure success by how empowered people feel, not just how many policies get signed.

It’s walking into work thinking, “How do I make sure this person has what they need to thrive?”

Sometimes that’s coaching, sometimes that’s calling out inequity, sometimes it’s saying no to leadership when the ask isn’t aligned with values.

But it also means holding space for real life, because people walk into work carrying grief, joy, ambition, and anxiety.

Some days? You just might get all of the above! 😬

You can’t fully separate life from work. Soooo, why pretend???

At its core, being People Proud is about building organizations that don’t just extract value from employees but create it with them.

That’s what fuels me: knowing that every policy, every system, every awkward conversation has the potential to either chip away at trust or build it!
